In 1938 the Nazi regime in Germany, the Third Reich, was a cemented government. To the outside world, it seemed a growing and unassailable dictatorship which had the backing of the people of Germany. Nothing could have been further from the truth.
In Dark Reich, there is an internal anti-Nazi resistance. In fact, there are several… yet, none is so well developed as that organised by Admiral Canaris of the Abwehr. The leader of Germany’s foreign intelligence agency, Canaris formed the Brandenburg Kommando units with the backing of Berlin. In bold betrayal of Hitler, however, Canaris recognised the need to develop an antidote to the growing power of the SS; thus, under the guise and hidden within the Brandenburger organisation, Canaris founded Brandenburg-X.
Magick and other paranormal investigations have a home in Brandenburg-X. So too do some of the very finest and most promising military candidates from the Brandenburger units. Together, under a veil of secrecy, Canaris’ special agency has created teams of elite and specialised operatives capable of being posted anywhere in the world.
The race to understand and harness the powers of the Dark Tide has begun. Himmler’s SS has a head-start, with an huge budget and Hitler’s full support to propel them. Yet, Brandenburg-X is also on the trail for knowledge and power. These hidden agents could be all that stands between Himmler’s dreams and the lives of millions of ordinary people destined for enslavement by the Reich. The time for action is upon us.

Would you then say that the PCs would be members of the Brandenburg-X, trying to stop Himmler and his SS?
I suppose you could then get the Wehrmacht as a third group – but one that is not involved with the Magickal side of things – just annoyed with being left out by the SS support from upon high.
Would you say that the civil government – what’s left of it, still have enough power to have created this Brandenburg-X group, to help stave off Himmler,and their erosion of power by Hitler? Thus breaking up the monopoly Hitler seems to have in Germany?
